Wapda Defends National Women’s Basketball Championship Title in Thrilling Finale

In the third-place match, Lahore claimed a resounding 48-23 victory over Karachi.

Lahore: Wapda has successfully defended its title at the National Women’s Basketball Championship, defeating Pakistan Army 38-33 in a thrilling final at the Wapda Sports Complex on Monday. The victory marks another impressive achievement for the defending champions in a tightly contested tournament.

The five-day championship saw eight teams in action, including Pakistan Wapda, Army, Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Hazara, and Bahawalpur Division, and was organized by the Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF).

Wapda came out strong in the first half of the final, establishing a dominant 12-point lead by halftime, with the score standing at 27-15. Despite a determined effort from Pakistan Army in the second half to close the gap, Wapda’s lead proved insurmountable, and the final scoreline ended at 38-33 in their favor.

Key contributions came from Wapda’s Hijab Fatima and Kainat Zafar, who played pivotal roles in securing the victory. Hijab scored 12 points, while Kainat added 10. For Pakistan Army, Fajar Fatima led the scoring with 9 points, while Aysha Dilashad and Kashifa Noreen contributed 8 points each.

In the third-place match, Lahore claimed a resounding 48-23 victory over Karachi. Lahore led from start to finish, with a commanding 33-12 advantage at halftime. Khadija Mushtaq and Aimen Mehmood were the top scorers for Lahore, each contributing 13 points.

The closing ceremony saw General Manager Sports and President of the WAPDA Sports Board, Imdad Ullah Memon, as the chief guest, alongside Pakistan Basketball Federation Secretary General Khalid Bashir. They presented awards and trophies to the players, celebrating the remarkable performances throughout the championship.

Wapda’s victory underscores their dominance in women’s basketball, and with the impressive performances from the players, the team has proven once again to be a force to reckon with in the sport.
