Moscow To Host 2030 World Weightlifting Championships After Long Gap

Russia wins a rare global sports event as India’s Ahmedabad is also named host for 2029

Moscow – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – Moscow will host the 2030 World Weightlifting Championships. The sport’s governing body made the announcement on Sunday.

The International Weightlifting Federation, or IWF, also named Ahmedabad in India as the host city for the 2029 edition.

This is a big moment for Russia. Moscow becomes the first Russian city to win a global championship in an Olympic sport since the war in Ukraine began in 2022.

The IWF said it received strong bids from several countries. General Secretary Jose Quinones praised all the bidders. He said he was sure the events would be a big success in each host country.

The news shows that Russia is slowly returning to international sport. Many bans and limits were placed on Russian teams and events after the war started.

Some of those limits are now easing. In July, the International Olympic Committee lifted its suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee for the time being. That step may allow Russian athletes to compete at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Moscow has hosted this event before. The last time was in 1983, which means the city will welcome the world’s strongest lifters again after almost half a century.

For India, the 2029 award is also a proud moment. Ahmedabad will get the chance to show its sports facilities and warm welcome to lifters from around the world.

Fans of the sport now have two big dates to mark. The 2029 event will take place in India, and the 2030 event will follow in Russia.

The decision may spark debate in the sports world. Some people will welcome the return of Russia to the global stage, while others may question the timing.

For now, the IWF has made its choice. Preparations for both events are expected to begin in the coming months, and more details on dates and venues should follow.
