Trump Announces Lebanon Israel Ten Day Ceasefire

Both leaders agreed to initiate a ceasefire, Trump said.

WASHINGTON: (Web Desk) – The announcement was made on Truth Social, where Trump said he held productive discussions with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to Trump, both leaders agreed to initiate a ceasefire aimed at paving the way for long-term peace.

He stated that the ceasefire would take effect at 5 pm US time, marking a significant diplomatic step after decades of limited direct engagement between the two sides. Trump also highlighted that representatives from both countries recently met in Washington for the first time in 34 years, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in attendance.

The US president said he had directed Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary Rubio to continue diplomatic efforts with both nations to achieve a lasting peace agreement. He expressed confidence that progress could be made quickly, adding that he plans to invite both leaders to the White House for further talks — the first of their kind in decades.

Amid these developments, Lebanese authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that weapons remain under state control, a key demand repeatedly raised by Israel, particularly regarding Hezbollah. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom announced financial assistance to support those displaced by recent hostilities.

Despite diplomatic efforts, reports indicated that Israeli strikes continued in parts of southern Lebanon during the ceasefire push, targeting residential areas and infrastructure, resulting in casualties.
