During a press conference in Lahore, Yasir expressed his joy over fellow athlete Arshad Nadeem’s international success, saying, “I’m proud that Arshad Nadeem has put our country on the global map. His accomplishments are truly inspiring for all of us.”

Yasir, the current national javelin champion who won a bronze medal at the Asian Athletics Championship in June 2023, voiced his disappointment over the government’s failure to honor their pledge. He noted that despite the prime minister’s announcement of a Rs5 million reward for his bronze medal achievement, he has yet to receive the promised funds.

The athlete lamented the lack of response from authorities despite his repeated attempts to follow up. Yasir also expressed frustration over the insufficient support and limited competitive opportunities, stating, “It’s disheartening that I’ve not been given any chances to compete.”

Yasir revealed that he has been approached with offers to represent other countries in javelin competitions. He urged the government and sports authorities to fulfill their promises and support athletes like him to continue representing Pakistan internationally.

Yasir earned his bronze medal at the Asian Athletics Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, marking Pakistan’s first medal in the event since 1991. With a throw of 79.93 meters, Yasir finished behind Japan’s Roderick Genki Dean, who won gold with 83.15 meters, and India’s DP Manu, who took silver with 81.01 meters. This achievement placed Pakistan 17th out of 42 countries in the medal standings.
