Cotton Prices Jump by Rs400 Per Maund Amid Heatwave Concerns
Farmers have also been encouraged to spray micronutrients on cotton crops to improve plant health and minimize heat stress.
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Cotton prices in Pakistan have increased by Rs400 per maund over the past week as extreme temperatures continue to affect crop conditions in major cotton-growing regions.
According to the Cotton Ginners Forum, the price of cotton has risen to Rs18,200 per maund in Punjab, while in Sindh it is being traded at up to Rs17,700 per maund.
Chairman of the Cotton Ginners Forum Ahsan-ul-Haq said the ongoing heatwave is creating serious challenges for the cotton crop, raising concerns about production and supply.
To reduce the impact of the extreme weather, the Agriculture Department has advised farmers to shorten irrigation duration and use light watering to protect their fields. Farmers have also been encouraged to spray micronutrients on cotton crops to improve plant health and minimize heat stress.
The continued rise in temperatures has increased uncertainty in the cotton market, with industry experts closely monitoring crop conditions in the coming weeks.
