Speaker Punjab Assembly Stresses Urgent Need for Dams at Color Expo 2025
The question of Pakistan’s very existence is now tied to our ability to store river waters, Malik said.
Lahore (Asif Iqbal): Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, while addressing the media at Color Expo 2025, underlined the urgent need to build water storage projects on Pakistan’s rivers, calling it a matter of “national survival.”
“The question of Pakistan’s very existence is now tied to our ability to store river waters. I assure the people that the government and all institutions are utilizing every possible resource for relief,” Malik Ahmad Khan said.
He emphasized that flood-affected communities would not be left alone. “The people should rest assured, the government and the nation stand firmly with them. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is carrying out relief measures with full capability, while the Prime Minister has already indicated his commitment on the matter of dams.”
The Speaker further stressed that farmers must be given immediate relief in the present circumstances, pledging that he would mobilize all his political strength to push forward the construction of dams.
Commenting on India’s statements regarding suspending agreements, he said, “No action by Modi or his government can nullify these commitments.”
Malik Ahmad Khan described the devastation in Punjab as unprecedented: “Entire villages have been submerged, millions of people are affected. We have not witnessed such floods in decades.”
