Sher Afzal Marwat Refuses to Beg for Rejoining PTI, Criticizes Leadership

Marwat Expelled from PTI Over Controversial Speech in Swabi

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat has made it clear that he will not beg the party’s incarcerated founder, Imran Khan, to take him back into the party fold. Speaking during a private news channel program on Sunday, Marwat, who was expelled from PTI for the third time in February 2025, expressed his discontent, stating that his self-respect had been repeatedly undermined by the party leadership.

“I was expelled again and again, and my self-respect was undermined repeatedly,” Marwat said, adding that at this point, it no longer mattered whether he was allowed to rejoin PTI. Despite his frustration, Marwat mentioned that he still wanted to meet Imran Khan to inform him about the injustices he had faced.

When asked about the current PTI leadership, Marwat stated that they lacked a clear strategy or plan to secure Khan’s release from jail, where the former prime minister has been held since August 2023 on multiple charges ranging from corruption to terrorism.

Marwat’s expulsion from PTI in February came after Khan ordered his removal due to repeated violations of party discipline, particularly following a controversial speech he made during a public gathering in Swabi. The speech led to outrage among party leaders, including Khan, who expressed his displeasure over Marwat’s comments.

Following the incident, PTI issued an official notification expelling Marwat, citing his actions during the rally and his failure to address the show-cause notice sent to him by the party.

Marwat’s expulsion was part of a broader wave of disciplinary actions within the PTI, highlighting tensions within the party as it grapples with internal conflicts amid Khan’s continued imprisonment.
