Shan Masood Reflects on Pakistan’s Defeat Against England

Captain Emphasizes Need for Team to Learn and Adapt

Following Pakistan’s heavy loss to England in the first Test match in Multan, captain Shan Masood expressed significant disappointment but underscored the necessity for the team to regroup and learn from the experience.

Reflecting on the game, Masood acknowledged that the team misjudged the pitch conditions and failed to adapt throughout the five days. He remarked, “We took the pitch too literally and expected it to deteriorate earlier than it did. We need to figure out how to remain competitive and play according to the conditions for the entire match.”

Masood also noted the team’s struggle to secure enough wickets, stating, “We’re having difficulty taking ten or twenty wickets, and our regular scorer, Rizwan, was unable to find his form in this match.” Despite the setback, Masood remained optimistic, pledging to field the strongest team possible in the upcoming second Test.

He praised Babar Azam, labeling him Pakistan’s top batsman, and indicated that the team selection for the next match would depend on the conditions.

Masood reassured fans that they could expect an improved performance in the second Test.

On the other hand, England captain Ollie Pope celebrated the victory as particularly meaningful. He commended the bowling performances of Jack Leach and debutant Shoaib Bashir, while also highlighting the contributions of Joe Root and Harry Brook, whose substantial scores helped England assert their dominance.

“Good performances win you matches, and we love playing cricket,” Pope stated during his press conference.
