Section 144 Enforced Across Balochistan During Muharram

Quetta Faces Additional Restrictions Under Muharram Security Plan

QUETTA: (Web Desk) – The Balochistan government has imposed strict security measures across the province under Section 144 to maintain law and order and prevent sectarian tensions during Muharram.

According to a notification issued by the provincial Home Department, the restrictions will remain effective from 1st Muharram to 10th Muharram. Authorities may extend or withdraw the measures depending on the security situation.

The notification prohibits the publication, distribution, display, and online sharing of sectarian, hateful, provocative, or inflammatory content that could disrupt public order or incite unrest. The ban applies to all communication channels, including social media platforms and digital networks.

As part of enhanced security arrangements, the public display and carrying of weapons and ammunition have also been banned throughout the province. The restriction, however, does not apply to law enforcement personnel and other authorized officials performing official duties.

In Quetta, additional precautionary measures have been introduced, including a complete ban on pillion riding. Authorities have also prohibited the entry and use of large sound systems and branded loudspeakers brought from outside the district without prior approval.

The government has further restricted unauthorized individuals from gathering on rooftops, balconies, windows, and other elevated locations situated along the routes of Muharram processions and religious gatherings. Access to such areas will only be permitted for residents and persons authorized by the district administration.

The Home Department has directed deputy commissioners, police authorities, and other law enforcement agencies to ensure strict implementation of the orders and take immediate action against violators.

Officials warned that anyone found breaching the provisions of Section 144 would face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code and other applicable laws.
