Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Announces Start of Muharram 1448 AH

Islamabad: (Web Desk) – The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has confirmed that the moon of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH was not sighted anywhere in Pakistan, following nationwide observations and review of testimonies.

The announcement was made by Committee Chairman Abdul Khabir Azad after examining reports received from multiple regions across the country. The decision was finalized after detailed deliberations based on both eyewitness accounts and meteorological data.

According to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the absence of moon sighting means that the 1st of Muharram 1448 AH will fall on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

The committee had convened earlier in the day to assess evidence regarding the crescent sighting before reaching its conclusion in line with established lunar calendar procedures.

With the official confirmation, the Islamic New Year will begin on June 17, 2026. Religious observances and Muharram-related events will be held according to the updated calendar across the country.

Provincial administrations and relevant authorities are expected to finalize security, crowd management, and logistical arrangements for Muharram processions and gatherings in accordance with the announced schedule.
