Islamabad: (Web Desk) An Oslo court on Monday sentenced Marius Borg Hoiby, the son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, to four years in prison after convicting him on two rape charges and several other offences.
The 29-year-old, who is not an official member of the royal household, was cleared of two additional rape allegations but found guilty of repeated domestic abuse against a former partner, traffic offences, threats and other crimes. Prosecutors had sought a seven-year sentence, while the defence argued for a shorter term.
The case, which drew widespread attention across Norway, exposed years of alleged misconduct involving alcohol, drugs and abusive behaviour. Investigators uncovered evidence during a separate 2024 assault probe, leading to multiple charges.
The verdict is seen as a significant moment for Norway’s monarchy, which has faced increased scrutiny since the scandal emerged.
