Sahibzada Farhan Breaks Abhishek Sharma’s T20I Series Record
Farhan’s Three Consecutive Half-Centuries Power Pakistan to Series Victory
RAWALPINDI: (Mudassar Iqbal) – Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan has set a new record for the most runs scored in a three-match T20 International series between two Full Member nations, surpassing India’s Abhishek Sharma.
Farhan achieved the milestone during the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, capping an impressive performance in his first home series as Pakistan’s regular T20I captain.
The 30-year-old accumulated 238 runs across the three matches at an average of 79.33 and a strike rate of 165.27. He scored a half-century in each game and was named Player of the Series despite Pakistan losing the final match.
Farhan surpassed Sharma’s previous record of 229 runs, which the Indian batter scored in a three-match home T20I series against Afghanistan earlier this year.
The Pakistan opener began the series with a match-winning 89 off 53 deliveries, guiding his side to a four-wicket victory while chasing Sri Lanka’s target of 183.
He continued his outstanding form in the second encounter, scoring 73 from just 44 balls. His innings helped Pakistan post a formidable total of 215 for three. Sri Lanka struggled in reply, managing 133 for seven in their 20 overs, as Pakistan secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
In the final match, Farhan struck another fluent half-century, scoring 76 off 47 balls as Pakistan finished with 168 runs against the visitors.
However, Pakistan could not complete a clean sweep, as Sri Lanka chased down the target comfortably with eight wickets in hand to claim their only victory of the series.
Despite the final-match defeat, Pakistan clinched the three-match series 2-1. Farhan’s remarkable consistency throughout the contest secured his place in the record books and highlighted his growing importance to Pakistan’s T20I batting lineup.
