ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet on Sunday to observe the crescent of Zilhajj, a crucial step that will determine the official date of Eid ul Adha in Pakistan for 2026.
According to a notification from the Ministry of Religious Affairs Pakistan, the meeting will be held at the Pakistan Meteorological Department in Karachi under the chairmanship of Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad. Zonal and district moon sighting committees across the country will also convene simultaneously to collect testimonies regarding the sighting.
The final announcement on the sighting of the Zilhajj moon and the Eid ul Adha date will be made after reviewing reports from all regions. The decision is expected to set the nationwide holiday schedule for the festival.
Meanwhile, the SUPARCO has issued an astronomical forecast suggesting that the Zilhajj moon is likely to be born on May 17, indicating that Eid ul Adha may fall on May 27, 2026, depending on the official sighting.

SUPARCO clarified that while astronomical calculations point to the possible start of the new Islamic month shortly after moon birth, the final determination will rest with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee based on verified observations.
The forecast has raised expectations that Eid celebrations in Pakistan could take place in the last week of May, subject to the committee’s final decision. Traditionally, government holidays begin a day before Eid to facilitate public travel to hometowns.
If the usual holiday pattern is followed, Eid ul Adha 2026 holidays are likely to begin on May 26 and continue until May 29.
