Raul Castro Indictment: China Warns US to Stop Threatening Cuba
China Backs Cuba as Raul Castro Indictment Sparks US-Cuba Tensions
China – (Web Web) – The United States has formally charged former Cuban leader Raul Castro in a move that has shaken international diplomacy. The Raul Castro indictment, announced by the Department of Justice, accuses the 94-year-old of ordering the shooting down of two humanitarian planes in 1996. Four civilians died in the attack, including three American citizens.
China wasted no time responding. Beijing’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun publicly warned Washington to stop using threats of military force. He made clear that China firmly stands with Cuba and opposes any outside pressure on the island nation.
Jiakun stated that China fully supports Cuba’s right to protect its national sovereignty and dignity. He urged the United States to exercise restraint and stop interfering in Cuba’s internal affairs.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel dismissed the charges as a political stunt by Washington. He also issued a strong warning, saying any US military move against Cuba would lead to serious bloodshed and threaten peace across the entire region.
The indictment comes as the Trump administration continues to tighten pressure on Cuba. The US has long viewed Cuba’s communist government as a threat to its regional interests. A heavy oil embargo has already pushed Cuba into a deep energy crisis, leaving ordinary citizens struggling.
Tensions reached a new level after President Donald Trump suggested Cuba could be the next target of US military action, following the Iran conflict. Beijing’s swift response signals that any move against Havana could draw a much wider international reaction.
The world is now watching closely as the standoff between Washington and Havana grows more serious by the day.
