Punjab Reduces Government College Admission Quota Percentage
DPI Lowers Additional Admission Quota For Government Colleges
LAHORE: (Web Desk) – The Directorate of Public Instructions (DPI) Colleges Punjab has announced a reduction in the additional admission quota for government colleges, lowering the limit from 20 percent to 10 percent in response to increasing enrollment pressures, according to reports on Monday.
Officials said the decision was taken after reviewing student enrollment figures and the capacity of educational institutions across the province. Many government colleges have reportedly been receiving applications well beyond their available seats, prompting authorities to revise the admission policy.
According to DPI Colleges, a 20 percent additional admission quota had been introduced two years ago to facilitate students seeking enrollment in government institutions. However, a large number of colleges have since exceeded their intended capacity, creating challenges in managing academic and administrative resources.

The department noted that institutions already operating beyond their capacity would now have to adhere to the revised 10 percent limit. Meanwhile, colleges experiencing lower enrollment have been encouraged to take measures to attract more students and improve admission numbers.
A formal notification regarding the revised admission policy has already been issued by the DPI Colleges Punjab, and the new guidelines will be implemented for the upcoming admission cycle.
