Punjab Issues Province-Wide Alert Over COVID and Seasonal Flu

LAHORE: (News Desk) –  The Punjab government on Wednesday issued an alert to all chief executive officers and medical superintendents across the province amid concerns over COVID-19 and seasonal flu.

The provincial government warned that outpatient departments and other hospital wards could experience an increased influx of patients.

Authorities directed relevant officials to remain vigilant and ensure that all available medical facilities are provided to patients.

The Punjab government said seasonal flu could pose greater risks to pregnant women and people suffering from chronic illnesses.

Citizens were advised to wear masks, wash their hands frequently and avoid crowded places as precautionary measures. The government also described flu vaccination as the most effective preventive measure and urged pregnant women and elderly people to get vaccinated on a priority basis.

Meanwhile, hospitals across Lahore are reportedly witnessing an increase in patients suffering from fever, persistent cough, breathing difficulties, body aches and other flu-like symptoms amid changing weather conditions.

However, the exact number of confirmed COVID-19 cases remains unclear, as government teaching hospitals are reportedly not conducting COVID-19 tests.

Claims that more than 2,000 patients were treated within a 24-hour period have not been independently verified. Health authorities have also not confirmed that all reported cases are linked to coronavirus.

Health experts have advised people experiencing respiratory symptoms to maintain proper hygiene, wear masks in crowded or poorly ventilated places and seek medical attention if symptoms become severe.
