Punjab cracks down on property tax defaulters
Authorities to seal commercial properties of tax defaulters soon
The city has announced a strict crackdown on property tax defaulters, warning that major evaders will face tough action after April 10, according to reports on Wednesday.
Authorities have issued orders to seal 31,000 commercial properties whose owners failed to pay taxes despite receiving final notices. The cumulative dues from these defaulters exceed Rs50 crore. Residential property tax defaulters are also receiving confiscation notices as part of the enforcement drive.
Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz lauds Pakistan’s historic peace efforts
Ahmed Saeed stated that all inspectors and enforcement officers have been instructed to implement the sealing orders immediately after the deadline, leaving no room for delay or excuses.
Region B has collected Rs7 billion in property taxes during the first nine months of the current fiscal year but still falls short of its Rs9 billion target. Across Punjab, property tax collections have surpassed Rs22 billion, though authorities remain focused on closing the remaining gap.
Officials warned that inspectors and enforcement officers failing to meet collection targets could face removal from their positions. The crackdown reflects a broader effort to enforce compliance and strengthen provincial revenue through stricter monitoring and decisive action against defaulters.
The zero-tolerance approach signals that tax evasion will no longer be tolerated and that significant financial obligations will be collected promptly.
