LAHORE: In response to escalating commotion in the Punjab Assembly, Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has announced the formation of an ethics committee to restore decorum and respect within the legislative body.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Speaker Khan emphasized the importance of upholding democratic traditions and respecting the sanctity of the parliament. “We must create a code of conduct and maintain the sanctity of this holy house,” he stated. “It is everyone’s responsibility.”
Expressing concern over the deteriorating behavior within the Assembly, Khan condemned the use of abusive language. “Previously, we had slogans, but now we hear insults directed at mothers and sisters, which is unacceptable. It is my duty to ensure the house runs smoothly and I will not allow the environment to deteriorate further,” he asserted.
Highlighting the need for respectful discourse, Khan warned against provoking one another with offensive language. “Protest is everyone’s right, but it should not reach the level of foul language. What started as rioting and noise has now escalated to verbal abuse, with inflammatory sloganeering and accusations becoming the norm,” he lamented.

Khan recalled a recent incident where abusive language was used within the Assembly during his presence. “If members stoop to such low moral levels, how can the House function? Those sitting inside are responsible for this degradation,” he remarked.
Stressing that the Assembly is not a venue for rallies or protests, Khan called for dialogue and civilized conduct. “Nonsensical slogans have no place in the Assembly. Despite a tax-free budget, we tolerated the opposition’s actions. However, if members continue to fall from moral standards, I will exercise my authority,” he warned.
With the formation of the ethics committee, Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan hopes to restore dignity and respect within the Punjab Assembly, ensuring a productive and respectful legislative process.
