PTI Leaders Sentenced Mughalpura ATC in New May 9 Case

Lahore – (Web Desk) – An anti-terrorism court in Lahore has handed down 10-year prison sentences to four senior PTI leaders sentenced Mughalpura ATC case on Saturday. The court acquitted former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi along with 11 party workers in the same verdict.

ATC-I Judge Manzer Ali Gill announced the decision. The case was registered at Mughalpura Police Station. The accused were charged with attacking and burning police vehicles in the Mughalpura area during the May 9, 2023 riots.

Dr Yasmin Rashid, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, and former senator Ejaz Chaudhry each received a 10-year jail term. A few party workers were also sentenced alongside them.

The verdict was delivered inside a makeshift courtroom set up at Kot Lakhpat Jail. Out of 22 nominated accused, two remain at large and have been declared proclaimed offenders.

The prosecution presented 37 witnesses and argued that the leaders had planned the May 9 events and pushed workers to commit violence. The defence maintained that all charges were politically motivated.

The May 9, 2023 riots broke out after PTI founder Imran Khan was arrested by NAB from the Islamabad High Court in the Al-Qadir Trust case. Supporters stormed military sites and state buildings across Pakistan, including the Lahore corps commander’s residence.

This is now the eighth May 9 verdict announced so far. Rashid, Cheema, Rasheed, and Chaudhry have been convicted in multiple cases. In December 2025, the same judge acquitted Qureshi in a Club Chowk case while sentencing the same four leaders.
