KARACHI: (News Desk) – Karachi Port has achieved a new milestone in international maritime connectivity, with its Port Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (PLSCI) climbing to a record 356.8 in the third quarter of 2026.
The latest increase builds on the port’s earlier gains this year, reflecting improvements in infrastructure, operational efficiency and growing demand for mainline transshipment services. These developments are strengthening Karachi Port’s connections with international shipping networks and global trade routes.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said improved maritime connectivity could facilitate trade, expand access to international markets and help Pakistani businesses integrate more effectively into global supply chains.
He said the government was working to enhance port services, streamline shipping operations and create a more favourable environment for trade and investment.
The minister added that Pakistan’s ports were being positioned to play a greater role in international commerce and regional connectivity. He noted that stronger links through Karachi Port could improve the country’s access to global markets and support more efficient movement of goods.
Chaudhry said the latest figures for the Port Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (PLSCI) and the Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (LSCI) should be viewed in the wider context of efforts to modernise Pakistan’s maritime sector and improve the competitiveness of its ports.
He said the government would continue working with port authorities, shipping lines and other stakeholders to expand maritime connections and improve port performance.
Describing the development as a positive sign for Pakistan’s trade prospects, the minister said stronger international links meant more trade opportunities and a better-connected Pakistan.
