President Zardari, PM Shehbaz Urge Global Action Against Rights Violations in Kashmir
Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have urged the international community to stop India from committing human rights violations in Kashmir.
In his message on Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination Day, President Asif Ali Zardari highlighted that the resolution granting the right to self-determination to the Kashmiri people was passed on January 5, 1949. However, India has deprived the Kashmiri people of this right for over seven decades.
He further stated that India is altering the demographic and political structure of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The international community has a responsibility to ensure that Kashmiris are granted their right to self-determination. He called on the global community to prevent human rights abuses in Kashmir and emphasized Pakistan’s continued political, diplomatic, and moral support for the Kashmiri people.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that January 5 is observed annually as the “Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination Day.” He lamented that the Kashmiri people have been denied their fundamental right for seven decades.
He stressed that the time has come for the United Nations and the international community to fulfill their promises and take concrete steps to enable the Kashmiri people to exercise their right to self-determination. The Prime Minister also called for the restoration of the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Kashmiri people.
