MUZAFARABAD: (Staff Reporter) – The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has finalized Barrister Iftikhar Gilani as its candidate for prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, as consultations over the formation of the new government enter their final phase.
A key meeting on the formation of the AJK government was held at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad, where senior PML-N leaders reviewed preparations for the upcoming election of the new prime minister and discussed the structure and priorities of the incoming administration.
According to sources, Gilani’s nomination has been settled, with the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly scheduled to elect the new prime minister on August 28.
The meeting focused on the political strategy for establishing the new PML-N-led government and ensuring a smooth transition into the next parliamentary phase.
Senator Rana Sanaullah and former federal minister Khawaja Saad Rafique attended the consultations alongside prominent PML-N leaders from Azad Kashmir.
PML-N Azad Kashmir President Shah Ghulam Qadir and former AJK prime minister Raja Farooq Haider were also present during the meeting.
Newly elected AJK Legislative Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Tariq Farooq and Deputy Speaker Ahmed Raza Qadri participated in the discussions as well.
The participants reviewed various political and parliamentary matters connected with government formation and discussed the strategy to be adopted during the upcoming legislative phase.
Consultations Underway on New AJK Cabinet
The meeting also considered plans for the formation of the new AJK cabinet and discussed the priorities that the incoming government is expected to pursue.
Party leaders exchanged views on the proposed administrative structure, future parliamentary strategy and the government’s policy direction.
Discussions also focused on developing a comprehensive plan for the new administration and ensuring an orderly transition to the PML-N-led setup.
Improving governance and strengthening the functioning of government institutions were among the other issues considered during the consultations.
The latest discussions are part of the PML-N’s preparations ahead of the August 28 election for the AJK prime minister, with the party now moving toward finalising the broader structure and priorities of the new government.
