Petrol, Diesel Prices Likely to Increase from July 16 Amid Global Oil Trends
As of July 1, 2025, petrol (Super) is priced at Rs266.79 per litre, while diesel stands at Rs272.98 per litre.
ISLAMABAD — The Shehbaz Sharif-led federal government is expected to hike prices of petroleum products starting July 16, with petrol and diesel set to become costlier for consumers across Pakistan.
According to industry sources, petrol prices may rise by Rs6.60 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) is projected to increase by Rs5.27 per litre. If implemented, the new rates will remain effective for the second half of July.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is preparing a pricing summary to be submitted to the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) on Monday. The pricing proposal incorporates data from oil marketing companies (OMCs), which submitted updated figures based on recent global oil market trends.
As of July 1, 2025, petrol (Super) is priced at Rs266.79 per litre, while diesel stands at Rs272.98 per litre. A projected hike would push petrol beyond Rs273 per litre, and diesel closer to Rs278 per litre.
The Ministry of Finance will make the final decision following consultations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. While OGRA offers a technical recommendation grounded in international oil prices and exchange rate fluctuations, the government retains final authority to either pass on or absorb the impact of these changes.
An official from the energy ministry, speaking on condition of anonymity, noted that, “Any change in domestic fuel prices is driven by international market movements and the exchange rate. However, the government also factors in its fiscal position before approving price adjustments.”

If approved, this would mark yet another increase in fuel prices amid ongoing economic challenges, potentially impacting transportation costs and inflation in the coming weeks.
