Pentagon AI deal expands military tech, excludes Anthropic tools

Pentagon AI deal reshapes US military AI partnerships strategy

Pentagon AI – (Web Desk) – The Pentagon AI deal marks a major step in how the US military is expanding its use of artificial intelligence. The Pentagon has signed agreements with seven leading tech companies to bring advanced AI tools into its classified defense networks.

The deal includes major firms such as SpaceX, OpenAI, Google, NVIDIA, Reflection, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services. These companies will now support high-level military systems, including Impact Levels 6 and 7, which handle sensitive and classified operations.

However, Anthropic has been excluded from this Pentagon AI deal. The company has been in disagreement with the Pentagon over safety rules and AI usage controls. Earlier, it was also labeled as a supply-chain risk, which led to restrictions on its use within defense systems.

US military officials say the goal of this move is to avoid “vendor lock” and reduce dependence on a single AI provider. At the same time, some insiders still believe Anthropic’s tools are more advanced, especially in cyber-related functions.

The Pentagon’s AI platform, GenAI.mil, is already being used by over 1.3 million military personnel. It supports planning, logistics, and operational decision-making, making defense systems faster and more efficient.

The Pentagon also highlighted that AI is becoming a core part of modern warfare, helping improve communication, security, and strategic operations across departments.
