Pakistan’s Trade Delegation Arrives in Bangladesh After 12-Year Hiatus

Pakistan-Bangladesh Trade Potential to Reach $2 Billion, Says FPCCI VP

ISLAMABAD: In a major step towards strengthening economic relations, Pakistan’s trade delegation has arrived in Bangladesh for the first time in 12 years. The five-day visit is expected to pave the way for enhanced trade and commercial cooperation between the two countries.

Led by Mian Anjum Nisar, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), the delegation is set to meet with influential political and business leaders in Bangladesh. One of the key achievements of this visit is Pakistan’s successful agreement to export 25,000 tons of sugar to Bangladesh, a significant boost for bilateral trade.

Saqib Fayaz Muggon, FPCCI’s Senior Vice President, shared that current trade between Pakistan and Bangladesh stands at $800 million, with the potential to expand to $2 billion. The delegation’s high-profile meetings are expected to focus on strategies to increase trade volumes and finalize new commercial agreements, including expanding the export of raw cotton to Bangladesh, which has been facing a shortage.

The delegation’s agenda also includes discussions with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Muhammad Yunus, and the Finance and Trade Minister to explore further mutual trade opportunities. Experts, such as Aatif Ikram, have highlighted the growing demand for raw cotton from Bangladesh, underscoring its importance in future trade negotiations.
