Pakistan Seeks Role In US Iran Mediation Process Reports

Mohsin Naqvi Visits Iran For Diplomatic Talks In Tehran

TEHRAN: (Web Desk) – Syed Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on Saturday for meetings with senior officials of the Iran amid stalled US-Iran diplomatic efforts and ongoing regional tensions.

According to a diplomatic source cited by IRNA, Naqvi is expected to hold talks with high-ranking Iranian officials during his unannounced visit. The trip follows his earlier engagement in April, when he accompanied Pakistan’s Army Chief during a three-day visit to Tehran.

Diplomatic sources indicate that the discussions will focus on bilateral relations as well as Pakistan’s potential role in facilitating dialogue between Tehran and Washington. Reports suggest Pakistan may attempt to encourage both sides to adopt a more flexible approach in ongoing negotiations.

Iranian media further reported that Pakistan is once again being viewed as a possible mediator in efforts to revive stalled diplomatic channels between Iran and the United States, which have been impacted by regional instability.

In parallel developments, Iranian state media reported that European countries are also in discussions with Tehran regarding maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.

State television claimed that talks are underway with Iranian naval authorities to facilitate passage for commercial vessels, though no specific countries were identified. The Strait remains a critical global energy corridor, handling a significant share of oil and gas shipments.

Iranian officials have said maritime traffic through the strait is being managed under new wartime protocols following ongoing regional conflict. Authorities have also indicated that commercial passage will be regulated through a structured system involving fees and security arrangements.

Iran’s parliament national security committee head Ebrahim Azizi stated that a new professional mechanism for managing maritime traffic will soon be announced, adding that only cooperating parties will benefit from access under the revised system.

The developments come amid continuing geopolitical tensions in the region, where control over maritime routes in the Strait of Hormuz remains a key strategic and economic concern for global markets.
