Attaullah Tarar, Saudi Envoy Discuss Stronger Media and Cultural Ties
During the meeting, Tarar congratulated the Saudi envoy on his appointment and welcomed him to Pakistan. Both sides discussed expanding bilateral cooperation through cultural activities, media exchanges and joint public relations initiatives.
Tarar said relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were reaching new heights, with significant opportunities for collaboration in television dramas, music, tourism, culture and people-to-people contacts.
Highlighting Saudi Arabia’s cultural and economic transformation under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the minister referred to tourism development in AlUla and the modern presentation of Diriyah’s historical heritage as examples of the kingdom’s progress.
He said Pakistan-Saudi relations were rooted in shared history, religious bonds and longstanding public connections, extending beyond diplomatic and political cooperation. He also highlighted the Makkah Defence Agreement as a reflection of the countries’ strong defence partnership.
Recalling Pakistani national Farman Ali Khan, Tarar praised his sacrifice during the 2009 Jeddah floods, when he lost his life while rescuing several people. He described the incident as a symbol of the enduring brotherhood between the two nations.
The meeting also focused on introducing Pakistani television dramas to Saudi audiences. Tarar said Pakistani productions reflected family values, Eastern traditions and Islamic culture.
He proposed exchanging delegations of writers, poets, artists, musicians, journalists and digital content creators to strengthen cultural and professional links.
Inviting Saudi tourists, media representatives and digital influencers to explore Pakistan, the minister highlighted the country’s natural beauty and historical attractions as major tourism opportunities.
Both sides also discussed countering misinformation and negative propaganda, improving fact-checking mechanisms and producing content highlighting their shared cultural values.
Tarar proposed establishing a joint working group comprising focal persons and technical teams from both countries to coordinate initiatives and advance cooperation.
The minister also briefed the Saudi ambassador on government efforts to engage social media influencers in public awareness campaigns. He cited a social media post about the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme, which had received more than eight million views.
For his part, Ambassador Raja bin Thamir Al-Baqmi described Pakistan-Saudi relations, founded on mutual trust, respect and political and military cooperation, as a source of pride.
He emphasised the importance of expanding bilateral collaboration in cultural events, arts, literature and media.
