Lahore: (Sports Reporter) – Pakistan have suffered an injury setback ahead of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup, with wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi ruled out of the tournament. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Monday that right-handed batter Sadaf Shamas will replace her in the squad.
Najiha reported pain in her posterior left knee, and subsequent scans indicated a possible sprain. Following an assessment by the PCB medical team, she will begin a rehabilitation programme immediately, which is expected to continue for up to four weeks.
The national women’s selection committee has added Sadaf Shamas to the Asia Cup squad. She has represented Pakistan in 12 Women’s T20 Internationals since making her international debut in January 2023.
The ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup will be held in Dubai from 28 August to 13 September. Pakistan are placed in Group A alongside arch-rivals India, Thailand and Hong Kong, China.
