Pakistan Launches Campaign to Vaccinate Millions Against Polio
Nationwide Polio Campaign Announced Across High Risk Districts
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Pakistan has announced a special nationwide campaign to combat the spread of Polio, aiming to vaccinate nearly 19 million children in high-risk areas later this month.
According to the National Emergency Operations Centre, the drive will run from May 18 to 24 across 79 priority districts. The campaign will also be conducted in coordination with Afghanistan as part of a joint regional effort to eliminate the virus.
Officials said approximately 6.19 million children will be vaccinated in 10 districts of Punjab, while 5.79 million children will receive immunization in 20 districts of Sindh.
Polio Cases Rise In Pakistan With Two New Reports
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the campaign will target 4.61 million children across 23 districts, and in Balochistan, around 1.99 million children in 25 districts will be covered. Additionally, about 450,000 children in Islamabad are expected to receive polio drops.
Health authorities emphasized that eradicating polio is a shared national responsibility. They urged parents to cooperate fully with vaccination teams and ensure that all eligible children are immunized.
Officials also called on communities to support frontline health workers and play an active role in efforts to completely eliminate polio from the country.
