Pakistan’s Federal Debt Reaches Rs83.38 Trillion Despite Monthly Decline

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s federal government debt increased by 6.60 percent year-on-year but declined by 0.30 percent month-on-month in July 2026, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The country’s total federal government debt stood at Rs83,383 billion by the end of July, marking an annual increase of Rs5,145 billion.

On a monthly basis, however, total debt fell by Rs259 billion during July.

The government’s domestic debt reached Rs59,274 billion in July, registering a monthly decline of Rs166 billion. Despite the monthly decrease, domestic debt increased by Rs4,286 billion over the year.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s external debt stood at Rs24,109 billion at the end of July 2026, according to the SBP data.
