Pakistan Confident in Defence Capabilities, Can Retaliate: DG ISPR

RAWALPINDI: (Special Reporter) – Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said Pakistan has complete confidence in its defence capabilities and possesses the ability not only to defend itself but also to respond effectively to any aggression.

Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya English, the DG ISPR said Pakistan’s defence posture was defensive in nature, despite India allocating substantial resources to expanding its military capabilities. He added that Pakistan was not engaged in an arms race.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Pakistan had no aggressive intentions towards any country, stressing that the country remained confident in its ability to safeguard its sovereignty and respond to threats when necessary.

On Pakistan’s political objectives, the DG ISPR said these were determined by the country’s political leadership. He maintained that the state and the armed forces did not pursue separate objectives, with national aspirations and goals falling within the domain of the political leadership.

Addressing the security situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, he alleged that the Afghan Taliban government was providing training and support to terrorists involved in attacks inside Pakistan. He said Islamabad’s demand was straightforward: Afghan territory must not be used for terrorism against Pakistan.
