Opposition Leaders Unite for Constitution’s Supremacy in Pakistan
The judiciary has been used to prevent the executive," Asad Qaiser stated.
ISLAMABAD – Opposition leaders in Pakistan have called for the unity of all political parties to ensure the supremacy of the country’s constitution. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the convener of Awam Pakistan Party (APP), emphasized the importance of collective action for constitutional integrity in a press conference on Friday, following a meeting of opposition leaders.
Abbasi stated that the key to resolving Pakistan’s problems lies in prioritizing the supremacy of the constitution. “The solution to all the problems is merely to think about the supremacy of the constitution,” he said. He further invited all politically enlightened individuals to join the movement, stressing that this journey is aimed at uplifting the country’s legal framework.
Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai also spoke during the conference, highlighting the inclusive nature of the struggle for constitutional supremacy. “We would also like to invite the judges along with the lawyers and journalists,” Achakzai said, emphasizing the broad participation required for such an important cause.
Achakzai also expressed confidence that JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman would take a leading role in this movement. “Maulana Fazlur Rehman will be on the front foot in this regard and spearhead us with verve,” Achakzai remarked.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser, the former National Assembly speaker, reinforced the message, stressing the importance of an independent judiciary and a robust democracy. “The struggle will be done for the supremacy of the constitution, an independent judiciary, and robust democracy,” Qaiser said, adding that the aim is to ensure the supremacy of law in Pakistan.
In response to questions about the conviction of PTI founder Imran Khan in a corruption case, Qaiser criticized the judiciary’s role, claiming that it had been used to undermine the executive branch. “The judiciary has been used to prevent the executive,” he stated.

Qaiser concluded by stressing the need for national unity, asserting that the country cannot progress without it. “The country cannot move forward unless the nation gets united,” he said.
The opposition leaders’ unified stance marks a significant moment in Pakistan’s ongoing political landscape, as they rally around the core principle of constitutional supremacy to address the nation’s challenges.
