The opposition on Thursday filed a requisition in the National Assembly with regards to a debate on the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Ordinance.
President Dr Arif Alvi had signed the National Accountability Bureau Amendment Ordinance 2021 on Wednesday. The tenure of Justice (retd) Iqbal was also extended.
Moreover, the ordinance states that the president will appoint chairman NAB in consultation with the prime minister and the leader of the opposition. However, if there is no consensus, the president will refer the matter to a parliamentary committee.
Earlier, the government had decided to convene a meeting of the National Assembly to approve various laws.
Advisor to the Prime Minister on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan called the Speaker of the NA Asad Qaiser to the Parliament House, where a detailed consultation was held on convening a session of the NA.
During the meeting, they agreed to convene a meeting of the NA on Friday, October 22, in an effort to deal with important legislation and state affairs.
The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs will send a summary to the President in this regard.
Babar Awan stated that the government did not want any delay in the application of the legislation in public and national interest and added that the legislation has been expedited on the directives of the Prime Minister and that results will be apparent soon.
Asad Qaiser said that every effort would be undertaken to take the legislative process forward without affecting the atmosphere of the House.
He hoped that all the parties present in the House would play an effective and constructive role.
