Motorway Police Assists 876,000 Travelers During Six Months
National Highways Police Reports Major Achievements in First Half of 2026

Islamabad: (Staff Reporter) – The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has released its performance report for the first six months of 2026, highlighting significant achievements in ensuring safe travel, providing emergency assistance, enforcing traffic laws, promoting road safety, and combating smuggling.
According to the report, from January 1 to June 30, 2026, NHMP provided timely assistance to more than 876,000 travelers on motorways and national highways across Pakistan.
The department extended emergency support to 876,625 passengers, while timely medical assistance was provided in 26 incidents, helping save valuable lives. Motorway Police also successfully controlled fires in 39 vehicles using fire extinguishers, preventing loss of life and property.
Through the toll-free helpline 130, more than 179,000 citizens received guidance, while over 123,000 people were provided various forms of assistance. Additionally, nearly 9,800 citizens received emergency support, and more than 42,000 complaints submitted through the helpline were resolved promptly.
During the reporting period, NHMP issued over 15,600 driving licenses, 43 CE category licenses, and 528 international driving permits. To promote road safety awareness, the department organized 1,327 awareness programs nationwide.
Lahore-Islamabad Motorway Toll Fees increased
More than 16.3 million citizens were educated about road safety at toll plazas, while over 2.2 million safety awareness pamphlets and booklets were distributed among road users.
Demonstrating honesty and dedication, Motorway Police recovered and returned valuable lost belongings to their rightful owners, including gold jewelry, hundreds of mobile phones worth Rs13.6 million, 23 bags containing important documents, and 31 wallets.
The report stated that NHMP recovered 25 stolen vehicles and 22 non-custom-paid vehicles, handing them over to relevant authorities and original owners. The department also safely reunited 115 missing children with their families and arrested 54 wanted criminals, who were transferred to district police.
During anti-smuggling operations, NHMP recovered illegal weapons, ammunition, narcotics, alcohol, non-custom-paid cigarettes, and other smuggled goods. Seized items included four illegal weapons, 35 rounds, three magazines, narcotics including cannabis, opium and cocaine, 2,420 liters of alcohol, and non-custom-paid goods worth millions of rupees.
The force also foiled attempts to smuggle 532 tons of wheat and flour, recovered more than 2,100 kilograms of unhealthy meat, and prevented 32 smuggling attempts by arresting suspects and handing them over to relevant law enforcement agencies.
In addition, more than 16,500 meters of stolen fencing were recovered, while special campaigns against overspeeding resulted in the registration of 817 FIRs against violators.
The NHMP social media team and FM 95 Radio continue to provide citizens with updates regarding road safety, traffic conditions, and travel information. Monthly open forums are also being conducted to address public concerns and resolve issues.
The report reaffirmed NHMP’s commitment to ensuring equal enforcement of law and providing citizens with safe, dignified, and high-quality travel facilities across Pakistan.
