Mohsin Naqvi Invited For ICC Meeting And IPL Final

Pakistan India Cricket Relations Remain Strained Amid ICC Talks

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly been invited to attend the upcoming International Cricket Council Board meeting in Ahmedabad as well as the final of the Indian Premier League. However, his participation remains uncertain as final approval for the visit is expected to come from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The ICC Board meeting is scheduled for May 30 and 31, while a virtual session of the ICC Chief Executive Committee will take place earlier on May 21. Discussions are expected to focus on major proposed reforms to the ICC World Test Championship structure.

One of the key proposals reportedly under review has been prepared by a working group led by former New Zealand cricketer Roger Twose. The proposal suggests expanding the World Test Championship from nine teams to twelve, with possible inclusion of countries such as Zimbabwe, Ireland and Afghanistan.

The ICC is aiming to finalize recommendations before its next major gathering in Edinburgh later this year. The board meeting was initially planned for Doha but was shifted to Ahmedabad due to regional tensions in the Gulf.

Meanwhile, the invitation comes against the backdrop of strained cricket relations between Pakistan and India. Bilateral cricket between the two countries has remained suspended since 2012–13, with matches currently limited to ICC and multinational tournaments.

Recent global events have repeatedly highlighted political tensions surrounding Pakistan-India cricket. The 2025 Champions Trophy became a major point of controversy after several fixtures were moved away from Pakistan following India’s refusal to tour the country.

Despite ongoing political challenges, ICC tournaments continue to feature high-profile Pakistan-India clashes that attract massive worldwide audiences and remain among the biggest spectacles in international cricket.
