Marka-e-Haq Anniversary: PM, President Mark Pakistan’s Response to India

Zardari Says Pakistan Air Force Defended National Sovereignty Successfully

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – A special ceremony was held at the Pakistan Monument to mark the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, where top civil and military leadership gathered to commemorate what officials described as Pakistan’s response to the conflict.

The event was attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Chief of Army Staff and Defence Chief Asim Munir. Senior military leadership including Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu also participated in the ceremony.

The prime minister began his address with a one-minute silence in memory of those martyred during the conflict period. Recalling the events, he said India used the Pahalgam incident as a pretext to level baseless allegations against Pakistan, despite Islamabad offering a transparent investigation. He claimed India launched an unprovoked attack on civilian areas, including mosques.

Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan’s armed forces delivered a strong response, saying the military “dominated the battlefield” and forced a ceasefire within hours. He reiterated that even after a year, India had failed to provide evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in the incident.

He announced that May 10 would be observed annually as “Youm-e-Bunyanum Marsoos” in recognition of what he described as a historic national victory. He also praised the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu, and the Pakistan Navy for their roles in defending the country’s land, air, and maritime boundaries.

President Asif Ali Zardari, in his remarks, called Marka-e-Haq a defining chapter in Pakistan’s history. He alleged that India carried out attacks on civilian and religious sites following the Pahalgam incident and spread misinformation through media narratives.

He said Pakistan responded with restraint but demonstrated strong defensive capability, particularly highlighting the Pakistan Air Force’s performance, claiming it shot down multiple enemy aircraft. He also praised the Pakistan Navy for safeguarding maritime borders and maintaining operational readiness.

President Zardari further criticized India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, terming it an act of “water aggression,” and acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in international conflicts, including mediation roles that enhanced the country’s global standing.
