KP Rain Deaths Hit 9, 23 Hurt in 48 Hours: PDMA

KP Rain Deaths Climb as Monsoon Spell Batters the Province

KP – (Web Desk) – At least nine people have died and 23 others were hurt as KP rain deaths mounted over the past two days. Heavy monsoon rains, strong winds, and flash floods struck several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, leaving a trail of destruction behind.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority said the downpours and sudden floods damaged at least 41 houses across the province. Families in low-lying areas were the hardest hit.

Officials confirmed that Khyber, Lower Dir, Mardan, Shangla, Bajaur, Lower Chitral, and Dera Par were among the worst-affected areas. Roads, homes, and small bridges suffered damage in several places.

The disaster authority has told district administrations to speed up relief work. Teams have been asked to reach affected families quickly and provide food, shelter, and other urgent support.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority issued a fresh warning a day earlier. It cautioned that glacial lake outburst floods, flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding could hit northern and central Pakistan between July 1 and 4.

The NDMA’s emergency centre said rising heat combined with an active monsoon system and westerly winds could trigger more heavy rain. This, it warned, may also speed up glacier melting in the north.

Authorities have urged people living near glaciers in Gilgit-Baltistan, KP, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir to stay alert. The public has been advised to follow official safety guidance closely as the weather threat continues.
