KP Govt Announces Subsidy For Motorcyclists Amid Fuel Hike

Afridi Criticizes Federal Petrol Hike, Announces Relief Measures

PESHAWAR: (Web Desk) – Sohail Afridi has announced a subsidy for all motorcyclists in the province to mitigate the impact of rising petroleum prices. The announcement was made during a press conference alongside Shafi Jan and Muzammil Aslam.

The Chief Minister criticized the federal government’s recent increase of ₨55 per liter on petrol, calling it a heavy burden on the public and urging the federation to reduce lavish spending while consulting the provinces on such decisions. He claimed the provincial government has consistently prioritized public welfare over political gains during crises such as the Corona pandemic, floods in Punjab, Gul Plaza fire in Karachi, and other national events.

Under the subsidy scheme, approximately 1.4 to 1.6 million registered motorcycles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will receive ₨2,200 per motorcycle to help offset travel costs. He assured that the government will not increase fares for the BRT system, instead absorbing the expenses to provide relief to commuters.

Afridi also highlighted the government’s austerity measures, including a ban on international trips and restrictions on new vehicle sales, contrasting it with what he described as the federal government’s indulgence in private jets and excessive spending. He reiterated that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government stands with its people in these challenging times.
