Pakistan Stresses Security Concerns at SCO Defence Ministers Summit

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – At the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Defence Ministers’ meeting, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif presented a firm position, highlighting concerns over terrorism and regional security cooperation.

Speaking on the sidelines of the conference in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, he stated that the continued use of Afghan territory by banned militant groups such as the TTP and BLA remains Pakistan’s primary security concern. He stressed that these groups are carrying out attacks inside Pakistan, posing a serious threat to regional peace.

The defence minister urged all sides to move away from blame games, hostile rhetoric, and politically motivated narratives, and instead focus on transparency, trust-building, and stronger cooperation among regional states.

Khawaja Asif emphasized the need for credible, verifiable, and effective action against terrorist elements operating from Afghan soil. He said Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism should not be ignored, adding that the country has taken concrete and practical steps rather than making symbolic claims.

He further stated that Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts and sacrifices represent a responsible and sustained commitment to regional stability. According to him, negative propaganda against Pakistan is driven by political motives and hidden agendas.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the defence minister also held bilateral discussions with defence counterparts from China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, as well as the Iranian deputy defence minister, focusing on regional security cooperation and defence relations.
