Kahuta Police Recapture Four After 14 Prisoners Escape Kahuta
14 Prisoners Escape Kahuta During Transfer to Adiala Jail
Rawalpindi – (Web Desk) – Police launched a major search operation after 14 prisoners escape Kahuta while being shifted in a prisoner van, a Rawalpindi police spokesperson confirmed on Monday.
The spokesperson said four of the escaped inmates have already been caught, while special teams are working hard to track down the remaining 10 suspects.
Senior police officers have been told to submit a full report on the incident. An investigation is now underway under the watch of top officials.
Early findings suggest a heated fight broke out among the prisoners inside the van just before they managed to escape.
Police sources said the inmates were being moved to Adiala jail after a court hearing when the incident took place. The van was stopped for a routine check, and that’s when one prisoner threw chilli powder into the eyes of police staff, giving the group a chance to flee.
Following the escape, police sealed off all entry and exit points in Kahuta. A large number of officers were deployed to comb the area as the search continued.
This isn’t the first major jailbreak in recent memory. Last year, more than 200 inmates escaped from Karachi’s Malir Jail during an earthquake-related evacuation, according to Jail Superintendent Arshad Shah. One prisoner died and several security staff were hurt during that incident. The superintendent later confirmed that over 80 of those prisoners were recaptured, with search efforts continuing for the rest.
