Muharram Security Rawalpindi: Army, Rangers on Full Alert

Muharram Security Rawalpindi Tightened With Triple-Layer Force for Ashura

Rawalpindi – (Web Desk) – Rawalpindi is under full security lockdown as Muharram security Rawalpindi arrangements reached their peak ahead of Ashura on Muharram 10. Five Army companies, seven Rangers companies, and over 8,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city.

Punjab Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bherth chaired a high-level meeting at the Commissioner’s Office. Commissioner Abdul Aamer Khattak, RPO Babar Sarfraz Alpa, DC Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema, and CPO Khalid Hamdani attended the meeting to review the full security plan.

The main Ashura procession will begin from Imambargah Ashiq Hussain in Taili Mohallah and end at Imambargah Qadeemi. Several other processions from nearby imambargahs will also join the main route.

The Punjab government has suspended Metro Bus Service between Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Friday. The decision was taken on the recommendation of intelligence agencies due to the procession passing under the metro track along Murree Road.

Snipers have been placed on rooftops along procession routes. Walk-through gates and metal detectors are set up at entry points. Female police officers are performing checks on women participants.

Two video monitoring control rooms are active — one at Punjab Safe Cities Authority and another at Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation. More than 2,000 CCTV cameras are watching all sensitive locations around the clock.

Rescue 1122 has deployed 57 ambulances for the day. A total of 537 hospital beds have been reserved in public and private hospitals across the city for any emergency.

Aerial surveillance, anti-drone systems, and mobile jamming devices are in place at selected points. Section 144 is enforced across the district. Authorities are also closely monitoring 14 individuals listed on the Fourth Schedule.

A total of 475 processions and 2,201 majalis are scheduled during Muharram across Rawalpindi district. Officials said a zero-tolerance policy is in effect for any violation of the Muharram code of conduct.
