According to media reports, discussions are reportedly underway to bring Depp back for Pirates of the Caribbean 6, while development of the screenplay is also continuing.
Franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that he remains in talks with Depp about a possible return. Speaking at Disney’s D23 event, Bruckheimer said discussions with the actor were ongoing and expressed hope that the project could eventually move ahead.
Depp first appeared as Captain Jack Sparrow in the 2003 blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. His distinctive comic timing, eccentric personality and adventurous portrayal of the pirate turned the character into one of Hollywood’s most recognisable film figures.

The role also earned Depp an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, while the first film became a major global success.
Depp subsequently returned as Sparrow in four additional instalments. His most recent appearance came in 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Plans for a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie have been circulating for several years, with Disney considering various scripts and creative directions for continuing or rebooting the franchise.
However, despite the renewed speculation surrounding Depp’s possible comeback, the sixth film has not yet entered full production, meaning fans may have to wait longer before Captain Jack Sparrow officially sets sail again.
