India and Indonesia Sign Agreement on BrahMos Cruise Missile System

NEW DELHI: (News Desk) – India and Indonesia have reached an agreement related to the BrahMos cruise missile system. According to a news agency, the announcement was made by Indonesia’s presidential palace following a meeting between the leaders of the two countries.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Indonesia, where he held talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

According to the announcement, an agreement was signed between BrahMos Aerospace and Indonesia’s Ministry of Defence for the BrahMos missile system, although further details of the deal have not been disclosed.

India and UAE Also in Talks Over BrahMos Missile Sale

A news agency reported that India is expected to provide Indonesia with the BrahMos cruise missile system as well as Astra missiles.

In 2023, officials from BrahMos Aerospace said discussions were underway with Indonesia for a potential deal worth between $200 million and $350 million. India has previously signed BrahMos-related agreements with countries including Vietnam and the Philippines.

In addition, Indonesia’s defence company Republic Corp and India’s Bharat Dynamics Limited have signed an agreement related to air-to-air missiles.

The two countries also signed memorandums of understanding to strengthen supply chains in key sectors, including critical minerals, steel, and agriculture.

The Steel Authority of India Limited and Indonesia’s Krakatau Steel will establish a joint venture to produce stainless steel slabs in Indonesia.

President Prabowo Subianto said, “We are two of the world’s largest democracies, and our partnership will be beneficial for the region.”

He added that both countries would accelerate negotiations on a preferential trade agreement, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India and Indonesia would work together to promote maritime security in the Indian Ocean.

According to reports, the two leaders did not directly mention the BrahMos agreement in their joint statements.
