Greatest Women’s T20 World Cup Records Revisited

Record-Breaking Stars Define Women’s T20 World Cup Legacy Forever

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – As anticipation builds for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, the tournament’s rich history continues to be defined by extraordinary performances, unforgettable moments, and record-breaking achievements.

Since its inaugural edition in 2009, 12 nations have competed across nine tournaments. While only four teams have lifted the trophy — Australia women’s national cricket team, England women’s national cricket team, New Zealand women’s national cricket team and West Indies women’s cricket team — countless individual records have shaped the competition’s legacy.

New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr set the record for most wickets in a single tournament with 15 scalps during the 2024 edition. Her remarkable campaign culminated in a match-winning performance in the final, helping the White Ferns secure their maiden T20 World Cup title.

That victory also saw captain Sophie Devine become the oldest skipper to win the tournament at 35 years and 49 days. The triumph marked her final match as New Zealand captain after announcing her decision to step down from leadership duties.

The highest individual score in tournament history belongs to former Australian captain Meg Lanning, who blasted an unbeaten 126 against Ireland during the 2014 competition in Bangladesh. Her innings remains one of the finest knocks ever witnessed in Women’s T20 World Cup cricket.

Australian legend Ellyse Perry holds the record for the most appearances in the tournament, having featured in 47 matches since the competition began. She also shares the record for most titles won, with six championships to her name.

Among bowlers, fellow Australian Megan Schutt leads the all-time wicket charts with 48 wickets from just 29 matches, underlining her consistency on the biggest stage.

New Zealand veteran Suzie Bates sits atop the all-time run-scoring list with 1,216 runs across 42 matches. Her contributions were instrumental in New Zealand’s historic title-winning campaign in 2024.

West Indies power-hitter Deandra Dottin owns the record for most sixes in Women’s T20 World Cup history, smashing 31 maximums during her illustrious career. Her explosive batting has made her one of the tournament’s most feared players.

The highest team total in tournament history belongs to England, who posted 213 runs against Pakistan during the 2023 edition in Cape Town. The innings remains the only 200-plus total recorded in Women’s T20 World Cup history.

South African captain Laura Wolvaardt boasts the highest batting average among players with at least 10 innings, averaging an impressive 43.30 throughout her tournament career.

Off the field, the 2020 final between Australia and India set a historic attendance record when 86,174 fans packed the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on International Women’s Day. The crowd remains the largest ever recorded for a women’s cricket match and any T20 World Cup final.

With ticket sales already reaching unprecedented levels, the 2026 tournament is poised to break new attendance records and add another chapter to the event’s growing legacy.
