Govt failed to control TLP protest: Khursheed

Staff Reporter – SUKKUR:

Senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah has said that the government failed to control the ongoing protest of the proscribed Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) as the “rulers do not live up to their words.”

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Shah said the centre and the Punjab government were helpless to take the country out of the prevailing crisis in the country.

“What is happening in the country is a failure of Islamabad and the Punjab government,” he claimed.

At least four police personnel were martyred on Wednesday, and scores of people were injured as clashes between police and TLP workers intensified.

The outlawed TLP is protesting over the detention of its leader Saad Rizvi. The group is also demanding the expulsion of the French ambassador.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry yesterday said that Prime Minister Imran Khan and the security services had agreed to treat the TLP as a militant group.

The government, however, had earlier this week announced a breakthrough in talks with the TLP, but the march resumed on Wednesday.
