Pakistan Records Rise in Eid Animal Sacrifices This Year

The association reported that around 74.7 lakh animals were sacrificed across the country during the Eid holidays, compared to nearly 69.77 lakh animals recorded last year, reflecting a noticeable increase in overall sacrifices.

According to the data, the sacrificed animals included nearly 2.75 million cows and bulls, 4.2 million goats, 500,000 sheep, and approximately 25,000 camels.

The report also highlighted the estimated market value of animal hides collected during Eid. Cow and bull hides were valued at around Rs2,200 each, goat hides at Rs600, sheep hides at Rs100, and camel hides at approximately Rs2,000.

Based on these estimates, the total value of hides collected nationwide this year reached nearly Rs8.67 billion.

Eid al-Adha, one of the most significant Islamic festivals, is observed every year in Pakistan with the religious ritual of animal sacrifice. The meat is traditionally distributed among relatives, friends, and underprivileged communities.

The annual Eid livestock market and leather trade also contribute significantly to Pakistan’s informal economy, supporting traders, transporters, butchers, and the leather industry.
