Putin Questions Romania’s Claims Over Crashed Russian Drone

Putin Says Romania Drone Crash Investigation Still Needs More Evidence

MOSCOW: (Web Desk) – Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday dismissed immediate claims that a drone which crashed in Romania was definitively Russian, saying it was too early to determine the aircraft’s origin without a proper investigation.

The drone crashed overnight between Thursday and Friday, sparking a fire and injuring two people, according to Romanian authorities. Officials in Romania stated that the drone belonged to Russia, triggering fresh concerns across Europe.

Speaking at a press conference in Astana, Kazakhstan, Putin said he had only recently been informed about the incident and stressed that conclusions should not be drawn before a detailed examination is completed.

“No one can confirm the origin of any aircraft until a full investigation is carried out,” Putin said, adding that Russia would review the matter if “objective data” is shared by Romanian authorities.

Romania, a NATO member bordering Ukraine, has reported multiple drone incursions since Russia launched its war against Ukraine in 2022. However, this incident marked the first time a residential building in the country was directly struck.
