Girl suicide bomber arrested before planned attack in capital

“The girl is now being handed over to her father with dignity,” Bugti said.

QUETTA: (Web Desk) – Mir Sarfaraz Bugti on Monday said intelligence agencies had foiled a major terror plot in Islamabad by arresting a would-be female suicide bomber before she could carry out an attack in the federal capital.

Addressing a press conference in Quetta, the Balochistan chief minister said the timely action by law enforcement agencies prevented a possible tragedy.

According to Bugti, the young woman had allegedly been recruited and prepared for the mission by militants linked to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army.

He claimed the girl had been threatened that her father would be killed if she refused to carry out the suicide attack.

“The girl is now being handed over to her father with dignity,” Bugti said.

The chief minister accused militant groups of exploiting young women for violent activities and said such actions were against Baloch traditions and values.

“We want to educate girls, but terrorists are making them wear suicide jackets,” he added.

During the press conference, the student said she was studying in second year and alleged that a cousin had pressured and psychologically manipulated her into working for the BLA.

She said law enforcement agencies treated her respectfully after taking her into custody and provided her protection.

The student further stated that she now wanted to continue her education and hoped to become either a doctor or a teacher in the future.
