Gilgit-Baltistan CM Calls for Peaceful Resolution to Darel-Singal Dispute

GB Govt had formed a six-member committee led by Special Assistant Maulana Sarwar Shah.

Gilgit: Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Haji Gulbar Khan, has emphasized the importance of resolving the recent tensions between Darel and Singal in a peaceful and brotherly manner. Speaking to a delegation of community elders and religious scholars from Darel, the Chief Minister acknowledged the potential threat to peace and security due to the situation and reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining harmony in the region.

To address the issue, the provincial government had formed a six-member committee led by Special Assistant Maulana Sarwar Shah. The committee played a vital role in defusing tensions and maintaining calm in the area — a contribution that the Chief Minister described as commendable and praiseworthy.

CM Gulbar Khan proposed the formation of a mutually agreed-upon jirga (tribal council) with representatives from both sides to resolve longstanding disputes and grievances in a spirit of cooperation and understanding. He stressed that such traditional mechanisms can help restore the historic bonds of brotherhood and peaceful coexistence between Darel and Singal.

However, in case consensus on a jirga cannot be reached, the Chief Minister announced that the provincial government will establish an independent and impartial commission. This special commission will be tasked with determining the boundary demarcations between the two areas based on factual evidence and ground realities.

The Chief Minister urged the people of both Darel and Singal to remain patient and uphold the values of peace and brotherhood during this process.
