ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has reserved its decision in a case concerning alleged violations of the electoral code of conduct by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
A five-member commission, headed by the Chief Election Commissioner, heard the case in which Sohail Afridi appeared before the commission. During the hearing, the lawyer of a PML-N candidate argued that under Article 218(3) of the Constitution, the commission has the authority to take action against Afridi.

ECP officials noted that multiple separate complaints had been filed against Sohail Afridi. Afridi’s lawyer, Ali Bukhari, requested that the four petitions be consolidated, explaining that one case was ongoing at the DRC office while another was being heard at the ECP.
The lawyer further argued that if a speech outside the constituency is considered pre-poll violation, it would set a new precedent. The Chief Election Commissioner responded that all points had been noted and an appropriate order would be issued.
Following the proceedings, the Election Commission reserved its decision on Sohail Afridi’s case.
